STRIVE PROGRAMS (A, B, C and D)
The 2024/25 season programs outline the anticipated schedule set for the 24/25 Summer Strive season powered by Go For 2&5.
CLUB V CLUB COMPETITION IN 2024/25
The Club v Club competition will run throughout the 2024/25 Season, with the champion club being awarded the Douglas Memorial Shield at the conclusion of the Season.
At every Strive competition, the top 8 athletes in each field will receive points as follows:
1st place - 10 points
2nd place - 8 points
3rd place - 7 points
4th place - 6 points
5th place - 5 points
6th place - 4 points
7th place - 3 points
8th place - 2 points
All other competing athletes will receive 1 point per event they participate in. Points will be accumulated for every regular event (excluding State Championship, relay or invitational events) and will be divided by each Club's number of competing members, to ensure points are weighted against the size of the club (minimum weighted size 25 members).
For the purpose of point scoring in throwing events, the field will include all athletes competing in the discipline regardless of implement weight.
Point score updates will be provided at regular intervals throughout the season.
History of the Douglas Memorial Shield
The Douglas Memorial (DM) Shield was named after British Army Officer Lieutenant G. Douglas, Vice President and Referee with the WA Amateur Athletic Association from 1928-1934. Records indicate he was an Official Starter for the Association in 1927, and he was described as an imposing figure, who inspired awe and confidence, who would call “Gentlemen, on your marks… set… [bang!]”. The DM Shield was first awarded in 1936 to Y.M.C.A and last awarded in 1993 to Curtin Athletics Club.

To compete in the Strive Program events, athletes must hold a senior membership with Athletics West, through an Athletics West Affiliated Club or as an Athletics West Independent.
HOW DO I REGISTER FOR STRIVE?

Athletes will receive a confirmation email following their online entry. Failure to receive this confirmation email means your entry may not have been processed and it is the athlete’s responsibility to confirm whether the entry was received by Athletics West.
REGISTRATIONS CLOSE TONIGHT FOR THIS WEEKS STRIVE COMPETITION, AND I AM HAVING TROUBLE REGISTERING
If you are having trouble completing the online registration form, please send an email to admin@athleticswest.com.au prior to registration closing outlining the issues. Where possible, please include a screenshot showing the error, to assist us in identifying the issue.
As long as an email is received prior to registrations closing, our competitions team will be able to assist you with entering you into that week’s event.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I FORGOT TO REGISTER BEFORE ENTRIES CLOSE?
If you forget to enter before registrations close, you will need to wait and apply for a late entry when they open. No exceptions will be made.
HOW DO LATE ENTRIES WORK?
For the 2024-25 Season, Athletics West will be continuing the late entry system, where a position is available in the event. Availability of a position in an event will be at the absolute discretion of Athletics West and will depend on lanes being utilised, timetable implications and set up requirements. Athletes are not encouraged to rely on late entries.
Late entries will become available upon the publication of the Final Timetable and Start Lists and will be available online until 12pm on the Friday prior to competition. Limited positions will be available for late entry, on a first come first served basis. Events will not be reseeded to accommodate late entries, and the available positions will be determined to avoid impact on the final timetable.
Late entries will attract a $15 fee, in addition to the standard entry fee as per the athlete’s membership category.
The Late Entries rule will be reviewed in December 2024 and members will be advised of any changes as a result of the review.
I HAVE ENTERED THE WRONG SEED TIME FOR MY EVENT, WHAT CAN I DO?
Athletes are required to enter accurate seeding times when registering for competition to ensure they are entered in the appropriate heat. Our Meet Manager software, which is used nation-wide for track and field events, does not allow for validation of these seed times and verifying 250+ athlete performances on a weekly basis is not a practical use of resources. Furthermore, lane draws are randomised by the system that is used. If you have a concern about an athlete’s heat draw, please contact the Athletics West office.
Athletics West are working with our membership platform provider to scope a results system that would potentially be able to store and export athlete results to enable validation of performances. However, this will not be in place ahead of the 2024/25 Season.
If you enter the wrong seed time for you event when registering, please send an email to admin@athleticswest.com.au with the correct time, prior to registrations closing.
Once registrations are closed, we will not be able to update your seed time, and your heat position will be determined based on the information provided during registration.
I CAN NO LONGER COME TO STRIVE THIS WEEK; CAN I HAVE A REFUND FOR MY ENTRY?
Athletes who email prior to registrations closing to notify us that they can no longer attend this week strive competition, will be able to have their entry fee transferred to another Strive event.
HOW DO I COLLECT MY BIB?
Athletes will need to collect their bib numbers from TIC, located under the grandstand at the finish line. Please allow enough time prior to your event to collect your bib numbers.
I LOST MY BIB NUMBER, HOW DO I GET A NEW ONE?
Replacement bib numbers can be purchased from TIC, located under the grandstand at the finish line. The cost is $10.00 for a replacement bib. You will not be able to compete unless you are wearing a bib.
Please allow enough time prior to your event to purchase a replacement bib.
SCRATCHING FROM EVENTS
Athletes are to notify the Athletics West office prior to the event, or following commencement of the competition, please notify the Technical Information Centre (TIC) of intention to scratch no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of the event.
