COACH UPSKILLING
Athletics West offer a range of Coach Upskilling Sessions that are designed for Clubs, Centres, Schools or groups to improve their knowledge and skills in coaching athletics events. These sessions are ideal for clubs with parent volunteers looking to assist with club training, schools wanting an upskilling or ‘refresher’ session ahead of school carnival season, or similar.
- Sessions are delivered by an experienced Athletics West Coach Education Facilitator, with a minimum Athletics Australia Development Coach Accreditation (Level 2)
- The session can include some/all of the 11 athletics events (determined by the host club/group): Sprints, Hurdles, Circular Relays, Middle Distance, Race Walk, Vortex/Turbo/Javelin, Discus, Shot Put, Long Jump, Triple Jump & High Jump
- Suitable for a maximum of 18 people. For groups larger than 18 people, an additional faciliator can be arranged to cater for higher numbers (NB: additional facilitator is $70/hour for affiliate Clubs/Centres and $80/hour for non-affiliated Clubs/Centres)
- Minimum age of 14 to participate in non-accredited courses
- Please note this does not include event progressions such as rotational throw spin technique, or advanced javelin run ups. Block stats may be included on request.

- All 11 events covered, 10 minutes per event. 5-minute intro, 5-minute wrap up.
“Watch & listen” format – given the time per event, this will be a demonstration
OR - 4-6 events covered, approx. 20-30 minutes per event
Presentation format with some interactive discussion and practical participation as time permits - Includes 1 x digital link to World Athletics Kids Athletics Resources

Affiliated Clubs/Centres: $200
Non-Affiliated Groups/Schools: $250
1 x 4 hour session, or 2 x 2 hour sessions covering events as determined by the host. Format options may include (this is flexible to the group’s needs):
- All 11 events, approx. 20 minutes per event
Presentation, plus interactive discussion and some practical participation. E.g. throwing implement grip, triple jump sequence, walking hurdle drills, stationary relay pass action, standing start position
OR - 6-8 events, approx. 30 minutes per event
Presentation, plus interactive discussion and some practical participation. As per previous, but more in-depth with the allocation of time per event allowed. - Includes 1 x digital link to World Athletics Kids Athletics Resource

Non-Affiliated Groups/Schools: $390
The following 'add-ons' that can be included as part of the session:
- Additional facilitator (suitable for groups larger than 18 people)

- Follow up/refresher session at a later date
Athletics West provide accredited coaching courses through our affiliation with Athletics Australia. All accredited courses are approved by the Australian Sports Commission's National Coaching Accreditation Scheme. The Athletics Coach Accreditation Framework is designed to progressively introduce the coaching skills required to develop athletes from beginner to elite. The framework is designed to allow coaches of all levels to master their coaching and participants who complete the Level 1 course or beyond, are registered with the Athletics Australia Coach Database.
