CHECK IN & SCRATCHING

Athletes are not required to Check In, however if you are not intending on competing in an event you have entered, please ensure you scratch from the event at TIC.

COVID SAFETY

The safety and wellbeing of our community continues to be our utmost priority. A reminder that masks are required when entering:

  • TIC
  • Changerooms
  • Technical Room
  • Officials Room - No athletes, coaches or spectators should be entering the Officials room under any circumstances
  • Results/Photofinish room – no athletes, coaches or spectators should be entering without permission. If you have an issue or concern, please visit TIC.

Field events will note that bench seats have been provided, to encourage social distancing from our field site officials. Whilst mask wearing is not essential outdoors, it is encouraged, given the increasing number of cases of Covid-19 within the community. Sanitizer will be available on site and we encourage you to use this between attempts.

Athletes marshalling for track events are asked to maintain social distancing where possible, particularly respecting the volunteer officials in marshalling roles.

VOLUNTEERS! WE NEED YOU!

If you are able to assist on a site, or have a parent/guardian/friend/coach who is available, please let us know by completing this sign up. We are urgently seeking additional support with field events and assistance with changing hurdle heights/positions between races, to ensure the competition can proceed as planned.

IMPLEMENTS

IMPLEMENT CHECK IN: A reminder that personal implements must be submitted to Technical at a minimum of one hour prior to the event start.

Javelin - We encourage athletes participating in javelin to submit implements at least 90 minutes prior to the event to ensure sufficient time for multiple submissions. Athletes should also ensure javelin implements are not covered in dirt prior to check in.

Discus – Athletics Australia have provided a directive from the national Technical Committee that relates to the last paragraph of TR34.1, where by manufacturer stickers and stickers put on implements in the past by Technical Judges should be removed. If you are submitting a personal implement into the competition, please note as a national permit meet, this will be implemented. Athletics Australia have advised the same protocol will be in place for Athletics Australia Tour Meets and the Australian Championships.

AGE GROUPS

The birth date calculation is as at 31st December 2022, as per the details below. For example, athletes who turn 14 by 31 December 2022 are considered Under 15 athletes and therefore cannot compete in Under 14 events.

An athlete can compete in only ONE UNDERAGE GROUP PLUS OPEN for each event/discipline. They may change age groups for different events but not for the same event. Please refer to the Rules and Regulations for further details.

Able Bodied Age Groups
Born 2009 or 2010 = U14
Born 2008 = U15
Born 2007 = U16
Born 2006 = U17
Born 2005 = U18
Born 2003 or 2004 = U20
Born 2002 or earlier = Open

Para Age Groups
Born 2008, 2009 or 2010 = U15
Born 2006 or 2007 = U17
Born 2003, 2004 or 2005 = U20
Born 2002 or earlier = Open

PARA EVENTS

Para events are conducted as multi-class events, using the Athletics Australia baseline scoring system with each age group (Under 15, Under 17, Under 20 and Open).

Events have been scheduled within the Draft Timetable with all age groups together, but dependent on athlete entry numbers, age groups may be run within one race/event or with the relevant able-bodied athlete age groups.

Athletes will have the opportunity to specify their discipline (ambulant or seated/wheelchair) on entry.

EVENT CLASHES

In the event of a competitor entering two events which overlap in the program, the competitor must inform the official when reporting for the first event. It MAY be possible for the competitor to compete in the second event as well, however a trial (jump or throw) can only be held during its designated round. Track will always take precedence over field events.

WORLD ATHLETICS SHOE RULE

In line with the new World Athletics Rule Change around Shoe Compliance, Athletics West will be enforcing and conducting the event under World Athletics rules for Under 20 and Open events. All athletes will be required to complete the online Shoe Declaration Form prior to competing.

UNIFORM

All athletes must wear the correct uniform; Club athletes must compete in club uniform and independent athletes in the Athletics West independents top or in plain white.

All athletes must wear their 2021 - 2022 Athletics West competition numbers. Athletes who are not wearing their official competition numbers will NOT be permitted to compete. Replacement numbers can be purchased from the TIC for $10.

Please note competitors are not permitted to compete in the WA State Team uniform.
