The ALAC (Australian Little Athletics Championships) is a two-day event held every year and encompasses the Australian Teams Championships for Under 13 athletes and the Australian Combined Event Championships for Under 15 athletes in both able bodied and multi-class categories. Nominations close 8 March 2022.

• Under 15 athletes who medalled in the Under 15 Little Athletics Age Group at the WA State Combined Event Championships (heptathlon) are eligible to nominate. If the medallists do not nominate, rolldown positions are offered to the next best performer at the Combined Event Championships
• Under 13 athletes competing at the WA Little Athletics Championships are able to nominate for selection. The Under 13 Team is selected based on performances at the Championships, with a team size of 20 boys and 20 girls. Athletes are selected based on their performances across multiple events, given the team nature of the ALAC event and point scoring.

We are pleased to confirm we will be sending a WA Team to the Championships, however, given the isolation protocols in place in both WA and Victoria, and the risks of exposure to Covid-19 at an event such as this, the team will travel individually to the Championships. This means athletes will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian and arrange their own flights and accommodation. Whilst we appreciate this is challenging, it provides a safer, more flexible environment for our athletes and team management, so that in the instance someone does contract Covid-19 during the trip requiring them to isolate and delay their travel home, they can do so with their parent/guardian.

Athletics West will be sending team managers and coaches to support the WA Team at the event. We will also be conducting several team sessions ahead of the Championships to allow athletes to get to know their teammates and prepare for the event.

In terms of travel arrangements, we are working with our travel agent to be able to offer rooms at the same hotel within proximity to the venue. Further information will be communicated with the team selection confirmation.

KEY DATES:

• Thursday 10 March - if you need to withdraw you nomination given the change in travel arrangements, please let us know by this date
• Monday 14 March – Team Selection: athletes notified by email and team selection announced
• Saturday 19 March – Team Presentation at 3.30pm, followed by competition opportunity, WA Athletics Stadium
• Dates TBC – Team sessions
• 21 April – Recommended day to travel to Melbourne
• 23-24 April – Coles Little Athletics Championships
• 25 April – Team activity in Melbourne (optional), team management return to Perth (evening).
