Level 2 Development Coach

The Level 2 Development Coach Course is the next progression from Level 1 and further develops the coaches understanding of how to coach fundamental skills and move toward event specific skills and drills. This level teaches coaches the basic technical models of the Track and Field events held at club and school level competitions. Additional topics include; training principles, components of fitness, and the preparation and evaluation of training sessions suitable for intermediate level athletes. 

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for any existing coaches looking to expand their knowledge and understanding of coaching athletics. From anyone looking to assist at their local club through to those with ambitions of developing their abilities through to international level. 
Individuals could include Athletes wanting to better understand their own training, junior coaches looking to move towards coaching intermediate level athletes or Teachers wanting to expand their event specific knowledge.


What is involved?
The course is delived in-person over 2 full days, involving a mixture of facilitator led theory presentations alongside practical introductions to activities and some online self learning modules.
Participant are encouraged to take part where they feel able but practical participation is not compulsary to complete the course. 


Are there any prerequisites?
Yes. Participants must have completed a Level 1 Youth Athletics Coachng Course prior to registering for Level 2 Development Coach.

It is also reccomended that coaches complete at least 30 hours of practical coaching before progresing from Level 1 to Level 2.


Pre-course Study
Prior to the first session all coaches are required to complete the following modules. 

  • Play by the Rules - Harassment and Discrimination

  • The Technical Model - Track Events

  • The Technical Model - Field Events

Course Length

Pre-course work will total approximately 5 hours. 

The in person learning is 16 hours in duration running between 8:30am and 4:30pm over two days.

Post course work will total around 12 hours.

Progression
After completion of the Level 2 Development Coach course, coaches will be eligible to progress to Level 3 Performance Development Coach course.

 


The Level 2 Development Coach accreditation is designed for coaches interested in working with athletes aged 12+ years old, and/or want to be involved in the Introduction to Training and Training I (General) stages of development (outlined in Athletics Australia’s Training and Competition Guidelines for Children and Adults).

This course teaches coaches the basic technical models of the Track and Field events held at club and school level competitions, in addition to general training principles for coaching intermediate level athletes.
