Coach Education | Javelin & Shot Put
Athletics West and Australian Athletics are pleased to host a specialised coach education workshop, aimed towards accredited beginner to intermediate coaches who would like to enhance their knowledge and confidence in javelin and shot put. Join Grant and Mike as they take coaches through a technical progression whilst identifying the key concepts and problem solve common technical faults. Coaches will be able to interact throughout the session and develop their skill set and confidence in rotational shot and javelin .

Drinks including water, tea/coffee and soft drinks will be provided.
CPD Points provided to coaches who attend, to go towards Gold/Silver/Bronze Badge
Session Outline
This workshop will include a theoretical presentation to cover key concepts and strategies, a practical demonstration to apply skills, and a Q&A session. This workshop is provided free to all Australian Athletics accredited coaches (Level 1 or above) and will be led by Mike Barber, High Performance Coach at Australian Athletics and Grant Ward- High Performance Coach Mentor.
BIOGRAPHY | Mike Barber
Mike Barber is the lead coach at the National Throws Centre in Brisbane. Mike has been a Team Throws and Combined Events Coach on multiple World Championship, Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games teams. has coached World Champion Kelsey-Lee Barber, Para World Champion Jayden Sawyer and was throws and jumps coach for Olympic Decathlete Dan Golubovic.
BIOGRAPHY | Grant Ward
Grant is one of Australia's most experienced coaches, with Level 5 accreditation in Throws, ATFCA Level 5 accreditation in Multi Events. Grant's extensive coaching experience has seen him appointed as a National Team Coach at 3 x Olympic Games, 1x Paralympic Games, 4x World Championships, 4x Commonwealth Games, 2x World U20 Championships and 1x World University Games and athletes under his tuteledge included former Australian Record holder Kim Mickle (World Championships Silver Medallist, Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist, Javelin) and Kylie Wheeler (2x Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist, Heptathlon), amongst many other Australian representatives.
