2019-20 Season Laurel Wreath Recipients

The 2019-20 Go for 2 & 5 Track and Field Season commenced last Friday, with the presentation of our Laurel Wreath recipients.
Stellar performances throughout the 2018-19 Season made for a competitive list, with State Record Holder and IAAF World Championships representative, Matthew Ramsden taking the top honours of bib number 1 for the upcoming season. Matthew had a stellar season, where he was crowned Australian Mile Champion and Oceania 1500m Champion, before heading to Europe where he broke Herb Elliot’s State Mile Record with 3:53.32. His performances earned him selection to the IAAF World Championships in Doha, where the 22-year-old finished 15th in the world.

The Laurel Wreath selection process allocates competition numbers based on the following achievements:
- World Record - Open
- International Team - Open (2019 IAAF World Championships, 2019 World University Games, World Para Athletics Championships)
- World Record – Junior
- International Junior Team
- Australian Record – Open
- Australian Record – Junior
- Area Championships – Open (2019 Oceania Area Championships)*
- National Open Gold Medal
- National Open Medal
- International Youth Team
*This event has been added to the selection criteria for 2019-20 due to status of the event under the new IAAF qualification system for IAAF World Championships and Olympic Games.
Athletes can only receive a Laurel Wreath on their competition number if they are a registered member of Athletics WA in the prior season.
