ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT QUALIFYING FOR THE JUNIOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Qualifying for the 2025 Junior State Track and Field Championships powered by Fuel to Go & Play is an exciting goal for young athletes across the state and the 2024-25 Summer Season has provided several opportunities for athletes to achieve their goals.

This guide will walk parents and athletes through the qualifying process, ensuring you can easily identify if you or your child has met the qualifying criteria. 

QUALIFICATION VIA ENTRY STANDARD

ALL athletes can qualify for the Junior State Track and Field Championships through entry standard results achieved during the qualification period of 1 May 2024 and 23 February 2025. Only results achieved within this period are eligible for qualification by entry standard for the 2025 Junior State Track and Field Championships. 

  • Only results achieved AND published from WA Little Athletics Centre competitions and 2025 Zones Championships are considered for qualification.
  • Results in individual events at the 2025 Combined Events Championships will be considered valid performances for qualification in individual events.
  • Field results from the 2024 State Relay Championships will be considered valid results for qualification of field events.

ENTRY STANDARDS

 

QUALIFICATION FOR COUNTRY AND NORTH WEST ATHLETES

Athletes from WA Country and North West Clubs and Centres are eligible for qualification through the above entry standard requirements OR by placing in the top 2 at the 2025 WA Country Championships held in Bunbury. 

QUALIFICATION FOR PERTH METRO ATHLETES

Athletes from WA Metro Clubs & Centres are eligible for qualification through the above entry standard requirements OR by achieving the following placings at the 2025 Zones Championships: 

  • Top 3 placing in Long Hurdles, 800m, 1500m, Walks, Discus, Javelin, High Jump
  • Top 4 placing in Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put
  • Top 5 placing in 70m, 100m, 200m, 400m, Short HurdlesOnly athletes born between and including 2012 and 2016 are eligible to qualify for the 2025 State Junior Championships, powered by Fuel to Go & Play.

The maximum number of events athletes can enter are detailed below.

  • Under 9 – Four (4) events
  • Under 10 – Five (5) events
  • Under 11 – Five (5) events
  • Under 12 – Five (5) events
  • Under 13 – Six (6) events

If an athlete has qualified for more than the below quota, they must choose / prioritise which events to compete in.

The 2025 State Junior Track and Field Championships event portal will only be visible to athletes who have met the above qualification criteria.
