ATHLETICS IN WA COVID 19 UPDATE - OFFICE OPERATIONS

With the current threat of COVID-19 and its impact on the health and economic situation worldwide, we continue to take guidance from the state and national health authorities and our national bodies.

Little Athletics Australia and Athletics Australia have both announced the suspension of athletics activity nationwide and whilst the situation is changing daily, if not hourly, we are unable to predict whether this will be extended further past the dates provided. In short, there is no certainty as to when we will be able to return to ‘business as usual’.

In this challenging environment, our current priority is the health and wellbeing of our staff, directors, members and families, and continued financial viability of Athletics in WA.

Last week, Athletics in WA closed our office to visitors, to limit the amount of traffic through our doors and contact with staff. The Athletics in WA office will remain closed to visitors until further notice. During this time, we ask that you contact us by email or phone.

We have also implemented the following in the interest of the health of our staff and in line with social distancing guidelines:

• The Athletics in WA office will have a maximum of four staff members in the office at any one time and these four staff will have a minimum of 4 square metres per person
• Flexible working arrangements have been put in place to allow staff to work from home and alternate attendance in the office
• Staff will be taking leave and using time-in-lieu during this time due to the postponement of winter events
• Whilst some staff are on leave, others will provide coverage for enquiries – please do not hesitate to contact us by email or phone.

Furthermore, Athletics Australia have announced the cancellation of the Australian Track & Field Championships for Open and Under 20 age groups. The Championships were originally postponed, but with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Paralympics and Under 20 World Championships being officially postponed and in efforts to try and flatten the curve of the pandemic the Australian Championships are now cancelled.

We strongly endorse the social distancing parameters recommended by the Australian Government and wish our athletics community good health and safety for this uncertain and challenging time.

We will be monitoring all email accounts as regularly as possible, but with the changes in staff coverage, it may take longer than usual to respond to your email. We appreciate your patience during this time.
