Published Tue 02 Nov 2021
The 2021 WA All Schools Championships powered by Go For 2&5 saw a massive 477 athletes descend on the WA Athletics Stadium for a packed weekend of athletics. Representing 152 WA High Schools, the weekend produced 2 new State Records, as well as 8 pending Australian Para Records.
WA’s growing talent pool of Para Athletes once again proved to be a highlight with Emily Prior (Mater Dei College), Michael McDonald (Prendiville) and Julian Miller (Sacred Heart) all collecting state titles. Emily Prior collected four gold medals with 3 pending Australian Records in the Under 15 F33 Shot Put, Javelin and 100m.
Trinity College’s Robert Marchesi-Scott showed why he is the upcoming king of the circle, claiming Gold in both the Hammer Throw, Shot Put and Discus. Destroying a 30-year-old state record, Marchesi-Scott threw a massive 62.90m to set a new Under 18 State Records. Saturday’s performance means that the Trinity College student now holds the Hammer Throw State Records in the Under 14’s, Under 16’s and Under 18’s.
In the middle-distance Declan Somers (Canning Vale College) posted some exciting results including smashing a 17-year-old 2000m Steeple Chase State Record with a time of 5:56.69.
The women dominated the track program with the likes of Olivia Dodds (John Wollaston), Danielle Graham (Peter Moyes) and Leah O’Brien (Mount Lawley Senior High) all collecting medals over the three days. Dodds impressed over the short track winning gold in the 100m, 90m Hurdles and 200m. Dodds’ ran a blitzing 24.18 and is just shy of the 2022 World Athletics Under 20 Championship qualifier. While Danielle Graham backed up her 2021 National titles with gold in the 1500m and 3000m. Leah O’Brien continued to stake her claim as one WA’s most promising up and coming athletes. Collecting 3 medals, O’Brien impressed on the track in the 100m and 200m, as well as a huge win in the Under 14 Long Jump with a jump of 5.26m.
In the jumps, high flying Pole Vaulter Ellie Parsons (St Stephens) cleared an equal Personal Best of 4.00m and was only 7cm shy of the 2022 World Athletics Under 20 qualifier. While Alex Perin (Hale) had no issues claiming victory in the Under 18 High Jump, clearing 2.07m on his third attempt.
