Published Mon 07 Sep 2020

Three Western Australian athletes Madison de Rozario, Rhiannon Clarke and Sarah Edmiston are among the first athletes selected to the Australian Team for the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

26-year-old Madison de Rozario has been selected for her fourth Paralympic Team, having made her debut 12 years ago in Beijing. The three-time silver medallist will be eyeing gold in the 800m T53, having claimed gold at the World Championships in Dubai last year and set a new world record in the T54 of 1min 45.53secs in Canberra in January.

New South Wales based de Rozario will continue her preparation supported by NSWIS under coach and WA Paralympic legend Louise Sauvage.

Rising sprint star Rhiannon Clarke will make her Paralympic debut following a rapid rise in the sport over the last three years including silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and dual bronze at the 2019 World Championships. 18-year-old Clarke continues to combine her athletic career with completing her year 12 studies.

Also making their debut is Sarah Edmiston in the discus. The 44-year-old missed classification ahead of the Rio Paralympic Games and has since won two medals at the World Para Athletics Championships, including silver last year in Dubai.
