Weekend Wrap: Australian Combined Events Championships & Canberra Track Classic

The Australian Combined Events Championships took place over the weekend at the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre, with seven WA athletes making the trip to Brisbane. Tahlee McVee set a new Under 18 State Record of 5328 points, claiming gold in the Under 18 Women's Heptathlon to surpass her previous best of 5163. Teammates Tori Moss finished in second place for the silver medal, with Katie Mobilia in 4th place. In the U20 Women's Heptathlon, Isabel Daines was crowned National Champion, producing 4992 points to take the win.

  • Isabel Daines - U20 Women Heptahlon, 1st place (4992)

  • Andrew Hilditch - U20 Men Decathlon, 6th place (5428)

  • Bailey Dawson - U20 Men Decathlon, 8th place (5058)

 

The Canberra Track Classic was also held last week, with five WA athletes in action in the Nation's Capital.

Kurtis Marschall continues his dominance in the Men's Pole Vault, producing 5.60m to take the win, ahead of Angus Armstrong (2nd, 4.45m), Declan Carruthers (=3rd, 5.30m) and Stephen Clough (5th, 5.15m). In the Women’s event, Nina Kennedy backed up her win from the Jandakot Airport Track Classic with 4.55m for 1st, followed by Elizaveta Parnova in 2nd (4.45m) and Lauren Hyde-Cooling in 4th (4.15m).

Brianna Beahan produced 13.27 into a head wind (-1.5) in the Women's 100mH to finish second behind Liz Clay, with Isabella Reeves running 14.04 for 6th.

Taylah Cruttenden was unfortunately disqualified after a false start in the Women's Invitational 100m, but returned to the track with an Australian Under 20 team in the Women's 4x100m relay, who will have their sights set on a strong performance at the World Under 20 Championships later this year.
